Wikipedia VS Encyclopedia

Brief history of Wikipedia (search from Wikipedia):

  • launched on 15 January 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger
  • the concept was came from Richard Stallman
  • originally, it was a 'feeder' to the expert-written English-language encyclopedia project 'Nupedia'

  • it is collaborate with the software wiki
  • there were more than one million articles in 2006 and more than two million in 2007
  • it is an international project with many different languages, like French, German, Polish, Dutch, Hebrew, Chinese and Esperanto
